In one of the biggest events across Australia for 2017, the Australian Federal Parliament has passed the marriage equality law last Thursday. This historic moment follows the results of the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey on 15th November where 61.1% of Australians voted YES for marriage equality. Australia is the 26th country to have achieved marriage equality.
In a recent article Professor Paula Gerber, Human Rights Law in Monash University, points out that “We should celebrate and enjoy the fact that Australia finally has marriage equality. But it is by no means the end of the road when it comes to the law reform necessary to enable LGBTI people to enjoy lives of dignity and equality.”
As a company, we have done what we can to promote equality for all Australians. We pledge to continue to work towards equality for all whether it be on the basis of sexuality, age, gender, culture, language, religion, disability or socio-economic status and circumstance. Our hope is for the wider community to make this same pledge and act on it.
