Come and celebrate the Loy Krathong at Parramatta Foreshore this Saturday. Acclaimed as Thailand’s very own ‘Festival of Lights’, Loy Krathong falls on the evening of a full moon in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. ‘Loy Krathong’ means ‘to float a basket’, and one of the signature celebrative rituals is to launch a lantern on the water, sending your prayers and best wishes along.
At Parramatta this Saturday, there will be a Thai dance performance touring from Thailand to present the very origins of Thai culture and Sydney’s most talented Thai chef Suject Sainkham will teach you how to make Thai food. Don’t forget to stop by the festival workshop to learn how to make your own krathong (floating lantern) for the ceremony later followed by a firework to close a beautiful evening. Of course, there will also be many stalls offering a wide range of Thai street foods and snacks as well as a lot of family fun activities.
