We celebrated the YES result of the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey at Cultural Perspectives today. Of all eligible Australians who participated in the survey, 61.6% voted YES supporting a change to Australian law to allow same-sex couples to marry.
Pino Migliorino AM, Founder of International Students Access, Managing Director of Cultural Perspectives Group, said: “We wholeheartedly welcome today’s decisive endorsement for equality for all Australians.”
The survey has also achieved a significant participation rate – 79.5% of the over 16 million eligible Australians participated in the survey. The Australian Capital Territory demonstrated the highest percentage of Yes Votes.
To mark the occasion our offices were decorated with rainbow themed garlands, cakes, fruits and badges.
While we celebrate the achievement of this national result, we also acknowledge the impact this national debate has had on our LGBTI staff, friends and communities. While we awaited the results with bated breath, there were those among us who have experienced anxiety, stress, worry and confusion throughout this process.
